We rinse the sardines and drain.
In a hot pot, stir to sauté the onions, until caramelized. We pour in the olive oil and when hot, add the sardines, oat groats, parsley, water, salt and pepper to taste and bring to a boil.
We reduce the fire to low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, until the groats bulge and most of the liquids have been absorbed. We may add some more boiling water, if needed.
We remove the pot from the heat and serve the “pligourosardeles” garnished with lemon slices.
